    If you do not get a confirmation via the registration process you selected within 48 hours, please call to ensure you are registered for the program or event you wish to attend.

You may pay for your registration or materials fee by one of the following:

  • Stop by The FCC during normal business hours M-F 9-4 ( Suggested to call to ensure someone will be there)
  • Send a check made payable to:The Friendly Community Center PO Box 604 Mountainhome PA 18342
    • Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
  • Online payment by clicking on the registration link for the event you wish to attend.

• Please do not register for more programs than you plan to attend. If you are unable to attend a session that you registered for, please contact The FCC.
• If membership fees and/or materials fees are required to participate in a program, fees must be paid before registration is considered complete.
• Some programs and events have maximum group sizes so you might receive a pending approval message at the time of registration. Look for a follow-up email to confirm your registration.
• The Friendly Community Center reserves the right to cancel a program due to insufficient enrollment.
• All programs are held at The Friendly Community Center unless otherwise noted

 

MEMBERSHIP/ONGOING PROGRAMS

BARRE FITNESS CLASS
Tone, sculpt and strengthen your entire body with isometric movements and light weights during a low impact workout. Modifications can be made to accommodate your individual fitness needs. Barre is performed barefoot or with grip socks and a yoga mat.
Time: Tuesdays at 5:30 PM- *Due to limited class size, quarterly registration required.

If you enjoy birds, join Darryl & Jackie Speicher of Pocono Avian Research Center for monthly meetings of the BBC at The FCC. Meetings will include informational programs, discussion of birds and seasonal birding opportunities, including walks and other birding activities throughout the year.

Time: 2nd Tuesday of the month 7 PM

 PLARNING- Plastic Yarn Making [Free & Open to the Public]
Chit chat, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and help the homeless and our environment. Turn
plastic bags into “Plarn” which will be given to the RSVP Merry Mat Makers who crochet it
into sleeping mats for Homeless Veterans. No experience needed, just scissors.

Time: Every Tuesday at 2:00 PM NEW TIME AND DAY BEGINNING MAY 7th-
This is a “Drop in” program, feel free to bring a friend.

This Chinese-based moving meditation improves balance and mental focus while gently lubricating your joints. Each movement simulates beautiful elements in nature and can be modified for those who need to be seated.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM
This defensive driving course designed for qualified drivers’ age 50+ to earn the potential discounts on auto insurance. Contact The FCC to register at 570-481-4330.

ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP
Is someone you love suffering from Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia? Connect with other caregivers in your community and get the support you need.

ALZHEIMER AND DEMENTIA MEMORY CAFÉ [Free & Open to the Public]   NEW PROGRAM
The program is recommended for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or mild cognitive impairment. One can enjoy an afternoon of shared activities with their caregiver. Activities include games, educational programs, music, art and other shared experiences. This program also offers support to caregivers and a way to enjoy activities together as a break from the normal routine.  This program is offered to persons still living at home and their caregivers.

DANCE & MOVEMENT *
Try a dance class designed to benefit members of the Parkinson’s community, as well as those with arthritis, trouble with balance, and other movement issues. Gentle dance, rhythm, and stretching movements improve flexibility and focus attention on eyes, ears, and touch as tools to assist in movement and balance.

CRYSTAL BOWL SOUND BATH-
Quartz crystal singing bowls are played, each one tuned to a chakra energy center of the body, where sound nourishes and stimulates the many systems of the body. Stretch out on a mat or sit in a chair and allow the sound to flow energetically through you. Benefits include: rejuvenation, deep peace, heightened awareness, and relaxation for the mind, body, and spirit. Join us for this special vibrational meditation!

The FCC is home to The Dottie Hughes Fitness Park – a unique place that allows you to strength train outdoors. Feel free to come work out when it fits YOUR schedule! Park may not be available certain days due to other fitness group usage.

MEDICARE COUNSELING
An experienced counselor will answer questions and  help you to understand your existing Medicare plan. Receive objective information about Medicare Supplemental and Advantage plans, prescription drug plans, and eligibility to get extra help with medical insurance costs.

WOMEN’S CIRCLE
If you are a woman of a certain age who is interested in connecting with other women in sisterhood, join us in forming a monthly women’s circle. The women’s circle is a safe, compassionate, supportive space for women to connect with each other as we share our hopes, dreams, fears, fun, and life experiences.

BOWLING
Bowl with The FCC at Mountainhome Bowling Center. Exercise, have fun and enjoy a little friendly competition. Instruction available.  All levels of bowlers welcome.

LABYRINTH WALK
A labyrinth is a patterned path, often circular in form, used as a walking meditation or spiritual practice. Join Kim on a trip to a  visit a Labyrinth in our area. Meet at The FCC.

OUR TOWN –OUR WORLD
Whether or not we realize it, some of the critical issues facing the world, climate change, pollution, homelessness and hunger affect us here at home. Join us for a series of presentations and Q & A by local organizations involved in these issues, and learn what is happening right here in our towns and how you might contribute to change.
Topic: Homelessness
As homelessness grows throughout the country, people right here,in Barrett and Paradise townships are living with no housing and limited access to food. Steven Levine, a longtime advocate for the homeless, will discuss homelessness in Monroe County. Barbara and Ray Perkowski, who were formerly homeless themselves, will discuss their work with people who are homeless in this area. After the presentations, small groups will meet to plan social and political action.

UNDERSTANDING ALZHEIMERS AND DEMENTIA [Free and Open to the public]
The Following topics will be discussed: The relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Examine what happens in a brain affected by Alzheimer’s.  Details the risk factors for and three general stages of the disease. Identifiy FDA-approved treatments available to treat some symptoms. Look ahead to what’s on the horizon for Alzheimer’s research. Offer helpful Alzheimer’s Association resources.

Meet every Tuesday for easy hikes to beautiful areas of the community. Participants exercise while enjoying time with others and our wonderful natural resources. A list of scheduled hikes will be available at the first walk.

BACKYARD SERIES
Keeping active while gardening or during outdoor activity is good for your mind and body. In this series, we offer presentations featuring everything from gardening, outdoor living to star gazing. Fresh new topics every Spring and Summer for you to learn about your backyard.

WHAT IS? SERIES

 Have you ever heard a word in conversation or on the news and thought to yourself…What is it? In this series, we will discuss and expand on different monthly topics about health, fitness, food and more.

What it is, Why some CBD products are legal, and How it can benefit people with physical and emotional ailments.
